Link: Hero of Time

This Link is the main character in the N64 Zelda games; Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. As his name implies, he travels through time to save the world from evil. He carries the Triforce of Courage, Ocarina of Time, and Master Sword.

Hero of Time Saga

This Link stars in two Zelda games, both involving time travel; Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Both are seen as high points in the series, and the former is often called The best game of all time.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)

The first 3D Zelda game, Ocarina of Time is a landmark for the series, and brought the series into the third dimension. This is the first game Ganondorf appears in chronologicly, and introduced his human form. It's also the first game to fully flesh him out as a character, giving him dialogue and cutscenes of his own.

Ocarina of Time begins with Link asleep in the Kokiri Forest, where he lives as a Kokiri. He believes himself to be one of them, and that he was created by the Deku Tree. Until the beginning of Ocarina of Time, he was the only Kokiri without a fairy. The first scene of Ocarina of Time, however, shows the Deku tree sending Navi the fairy, to be Link's companion. Link goes to meet the Deku Tree, and discovers that a dark man from the desert has cast a death curse on the forest gaurdian. Link breaks the curse, saving the forest, but not the Deku Tree, who expires. Before he dies, he gives Link the spiritual stone of the forest, and sends him on a quest to meet the Princess of Destiny.

Link's Kokiri clothes are thought to be the origin of the Hero's clothes worn by all Links, as this Link is one of the candidates for being the first chronological Link. The other candidate is Minish Cap Link.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000)

A rare example of a direct sequal in the Zelda series, Majora's Mask is the beginning of the child timeline, resulting from the split in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Though it is a sequal to Ocarina of Time, as Link has 'already' sealed away Ganondorf in the adult timeline, Majora's Mask technicly happens before the events of the former. This is one of the darker games in the series, and possibly the darkest.

Codex Ass-Kickus

This Link is a powerful swordsman, excellent archer, and capable magic user. At his disposal are many powerful magics, including the light arrows, and the Master Sword. It seems this Link is the sword's original wielder. He can augment his impressive combat prowess even further with his magical prowess, charging both his sword and arrows with magic, and increasing their power significantly. Thus, a foe is not safe in close combat, or at range.

Link's physical capability

Strength

Link has varying strength levels depending on his equipment. His unaided strength is clearly superhuman, while with equipment he reaches extremely impressive levels of power.

  • Unaided he can push and drag blocks of stone weighing in at a minimum of one hundred tons, as well as wield the megaton hammer, swinging it hard enough to force a pillar weighing many thousands of tons into motion. It is possible that this is due to the Triforce of Courage.
  • With Silver Gauntlets Link can push and drag blocks far larger than he can unaided, as well as lifting large boulders over his head and throwing them.
  • With the Golden Gauntlets Link is strong enough to toss pillars of stone which weigh in excess of a thousand tons at great speed.

Reaction

  • Throughout his adventure in OoT his natural reaction time seems to increase. While in the beginning he cannot dodge an attack from Ganondorf, by the end of the game, he and Ganondorf are playing tennis with lightning bolts.
  • In Majora's Mask, Link seems to maintain some of his reaction time, even without the Triforce of Courage, manhandling Majora who attacks extremely rapidly with attacks which break the sound barrier, and moves fast enough to leave after images.

Durability

  • By the end of OoT Link is capable of absorbing the force from Ganon's blows, as shown in a cutscene which also illustrates Ganondorf's superior physical strength.
  • As a child in Majora's Mask, Link obtains the Blast Mask, which is powerful enough to shatter boulders and stone walls. He wears this on his face, and yet even his eyes still function after use. This again is without the Triforce of Courage.
