Archimonde is one of Sargeras’ oldest and most terrible servants and as the greatest of all eredar warlocks, Archimonde serves as general and overlord for the dark titan’s armies, controlling what is known as the Burning Legion — a vast horde of demons, pitlords and eredar warlocks. Early on in his reign over the Burning Legion, Archimonde appointed the former leader of the enslaved pit lords, Mannoroth, as his second-in-command. Together, they led the Legion in the Burning Crusade — a vast war of destruction with the goal of razing every world that had been ordered and shaped by the ancient titans. Archimonde led Sargeras’ forces against the young world of Azeroth, but was eventually stopped and forced into retreat by the demi-god Cenarius and the dragon Aspects.
Years later, Archimonde led the Burning Legion against Azeroth a second time. This time, he preceded the invasion with a contagion that spread quickly among the human kingdoms and transformed the infected into hideous, undead monstrosities. This time, the invasion succeeded.
Archimonde’s forces swept across huge portions of the world and destroyed everything in their path. However, Archimonde was ultimately defeated and slain just moments from his ultimate victory as he latched onto the World Tree and tried to drain
it of its power.
Twice is it then that the arch druid Malfurion has played a significant role in the defeat of Archimonde and the Burning Legion.

Character quotes
- You are very brave to stand against me, little human. If only your countrymen had been as bold, I would have had more fun scouring your wretched nations from the world!
- Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world
From this seal shall arise the doom of men,
who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own.
Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit.
Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control.
Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair.
- Tremble, mortals, and despair! Doom has come to this world!
- You orcs are weak and hardly worth the effort! I wonder why Mannoroth even bothered with you!

Trivia
- Despite being completely obliterated at the end of the battle of Mount Hyjal, a portion of Archimonde's skeleton still hangs from the branches of Nordrassil. Where it came from or why the druids and the dragons still let it dangle there is a mystery.
